Stream Restoration Professional Development Workshop
Wednesday, March 29, 2-3 p.m.
Miller Park, Winston-Salem
Join Stantec Consulting Services and North State Environmental on a tour of the recently completed Miller Park stream restoration and earn one PDH hour. During the tour, we'll discuss stream restoration design basics and provide up close field observation opportunities. Participants will learn about urban runoff and erosion, stream channel design in a historical park setting, in-stream boulder and log vane structures, streambank stabilization, streamside vegetation, and observe recently completed structures and stream bank stabilization techniques.
An experienced stream restoration contractor, North State Environmental, will be on site to discuss construction techniques and answer questions regarding equipment and materials. Stantec biologists worked hand-in-hand with local Audubon Society members to select revegetation species that provide habitat and food sources beneficial to birds and other wildlife. A representative will be on-site to discuss vegetation species, techniques and issues; and removal of invasive species as they relate to stream restoration.
The walk is approximately 1/10 mile in length and rated easy but may include trip hazards. Please bring a walking stick if needed and wear appropriate field clothing, sturdy boots, and rain gear for wet or muddy conditions. We will not be wading in streams so waterproof footwear is not required.
Meet at the Miller Park Queen Street parking lot near the Bocce Ball courts and Moore Elementary School.
