River Course 401: Construction Practices for Stream Restoration

Tuesday, March 26, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Kernersville Public Services Building
509 Michael Street (Basement Level) Kernersville

Cost: $175. This one-day workshop will demonstrate stream restoration construction practices at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex, 788 Beeson Road, Kernersville. The restoration project under construction includes channel and floodplain grading, log and boulder vane structures, wood toe revetments, aquatic habitat enhancements, erosion control, and native riparian buffer planting.

The design-build river restoration project team is a collaboration of North State Environmental and Jennings Environmental implemented with grant funding from the NC Clean Water Management Trust Fund and NC Division of Water Resources. Participants should prepare for field observation of active restoration construction and interactions with the design-build team. Professional engineers will receive 6 PDHs. PDH credit for landscape contractors is pending.

This course is recommended for contractors with interest in stream restoration construction, construction inspectors. project managers, and state and federal agency personnel who actively review and permit stream restoration projects.

This stream restoration workshop will look at the process of restoring the eroded stream banks through Miller Park. Suitable for design and construction engineers, landscape architects, landscapers and stormwater administrators. Attendees will earn one PDH. Lunch will be provided. No charge, but attendance is limited to 20. Registration details TBA.

The workshop will be followed by an optional site visit to Miller Park from 2 - 3 p.m.
